About Alex
Born and raised in Northern California, Alex grew up with game design running through his veins. At a young age, he would frequently make up games for his friends to play after school, and eventually he learned that becoming a game designer as a career was something he could pursue.
Heavily inspired by the narratives and metaphorical gameplay of games like The Legend of Zelda and Shadow of the Colossus, Alex found a passion for helping players create their own stories. He received his BS in Computer Game Design from UC Santa Cruz and an MFA in Interactive Media from USC, during and after which he gained extensive experience working on a number of indie game titles. He enjoys educating others about game and narrative design, and has given talks everywhere from Los Angeles to Edinburgh, Scotland.
Alex now lives and works in Tokyo, previously as Creative Director at Shapefarm and currently as a Design Manager and Action Director at two Japanese companies.
